Our Impact

Old knives in, new life out

Most worn-out kitchen knives end up wrapped in newspaper and thrown away. Samji Steel, the company behind Sov de Kitchen, sees them as a resource. It is a social venture selected for Korea's 2026 Social Enterprise Start-up Programme.

01

Collect

Through a knife-collection campaign at senior centres and senior colleges, people bring in old knives and receive a new premium Korean-made knife in exchange.

02

Upcycle

The collected knives are given new value through master craftsmanship, rather than simply being melted down as scrap.

03

Employ

Senior citizens take part in collecting, sorting and packing, creating meaningful work for experienced hands.

“Discarded knives are a precious resource — and so are our experienced seniors.”
Choi Ha-hee, CEO, Samji Steel
